Dance, Food and Fun....(or not)!
Sunday, May 10, 2009
I have been travelling pretty often to my uncle's place during the weekend and this recent weekend was no exception. So happens, my uncle called me up to inform me about a dinner that I was suppose to attend on Saturday. I really thought it was a dinner dinner which would last for a few hours... 2 hours max. What i wasn't prepared for was a 7pm to 12am DANCE PARTY!! I mean.... with the assignments, submission and presentation taking place next week.....a dance party..... seriously?!? =) However, since my ticket had already been booked, I attended the event wearing my Hong Ki bought stuff, jeans and slippers (not ideal for dancing at all).

My aunt and her dancing friends were especially excited. They brought their dancing shoes and dressed up glitteringly not knowing that the theme for the night was Rodeo. Haha... but only the Royal Selangor Club members knew of it. The invited guests from William and Louisa Dancing Academy were all in their dancing costumes, so it was fine. But imagine the shock we got when we saw cowboys, cowgirls and even red Indians!

Since it was at a reputable club, we had high expectations for the food. When we looked at the menu, it was impressive. For the main course we had a choice of roast tarragon chicken served with spaghetti bolognaise, vegetable lasagna or some kind of fish dish [Note: I preferred chicken so I memorised the name. The fish.... never considered it. Hate fish =P] That was all crap. Table was close to the kitchen but food was carried out past us to the other tables first. By the time it reached us, all that was left was the chicken and lasagna. My aunt is one of those really healthy people who won't enjoy excessive cheese. Neither will I, but I can take it better than her. So I took the lasagna which was NOT GOOD AT ALL! The chicken was hard and dry as well! We had chocolate cake with ice cream drizzled with chocolate sauce for dessert. Haih... Too sweet, didn't enjoy it. We didn't even get our coffee/tea. NEVER MIND!

The main part of this event was of course the dancing. It was an open dance floor in the beginning and the ending of the party. Those people who came were enthusiastic about dancing, I must say. All the old(er) folks were dancing and dancing and dancing. It was interesting. The live two-man band was good. They had a lot of very old songs.... even older than the songs I usually hear. But knowing my love story with oldies, I enjoyed the music a lot. The performances were pretty damn good. I especially love the cha cha danced by two girls.

All in all.... it was ok.... could be better... food-wise. For all of you who are wondering if Rebecca Ng actually danced, well.... I DID!! I went out for the twist and the 'rasa sayang' dance! Take that! I wasn't sitting down all night long =).
