Torture!!!
Friday, August 14, 2009

The revival of a blog that has been in hibernation mode for two weeks…

The bookshop is possibly the only place in a shopping complex that will make me feel really helpless. That sort of feeling does not exist when I step into a boutique or a makan place – cafe. But a bookshop!!! Haih…

My ultimate favourite bookshop has to be the MPH bookstore in Mid Valley which I haven’t gone for years until yesterday. And stepping in MPH feels like I’m in a place just made for me… minus all the price tags.

Which part of it is torture, you may ask??? Well… everything!! I went to the historical fiction centre and I saw sooooo many books that I wanted to read like ‘The Last Concubine’.

In the classics section… oh my dear… They had soooooo many Jane Austen-ny books. There was a book ‘Mr Darcy Presents His Wife’!! Doesn’t anyone know my love affair with Mr Darcy and Lizzie Bennet? It’s my favourite ‘classic’ couple right before Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe. I want that book!!! It cost RM67 =(. (Ps… calling for anyone that has a powerful enough e-book engine…)

I walked to the music books section. Sigh… The books were freaking expensive and sigh… Forget about it!! Then, I saw an entire section on cookbooks, baking in particular… sigh… TORTURE!!

Then to the books on handicraft, beading, knitting, crochet and cross-stitching! One book cost a minimum of RM65! How will anyone be able to afford those books??? And I’m itching violently to get one book on knitting!

I walked out of MPH buying nuts. One day… I shall drive up to Mid Valley and spend an entire day in MPH reading the books!!

I wonder, is my definition of expensive too old-fashioned? Should I view expensive as something above RM60 instead of RM30? There seems to be too many things that are RM60 and above. But I just can’t seem to bring myself to buy things at that price. Oh well… I just have to resign to the fact that I, REBECCA NG, HAVE VERY EXPENSIVE HOBBIES with a very tiny winy budget=)!!
